The fishing sector would account for up to 1.5% of Peru's national gross domestic product (GDP) in 2017, the National Fisheries Society (SNP) forecasted.
It went on to add the projection was based on proper weather conditions for extraction operations.
On the other hand, Production Minister Bruno Giuffra projected a more conservative contribution from this sector to national GDP.
"I believe the fishery sector will contribute 1% to gross domestic product growth this year [...]," Giuffra expressed.
Likewise, the official underlined fisheries would register a growth level of 60% this year, considering the normalization of weather conditions and the passing of laws to benefit the said sector.
"We have seen recovery signs, and we believe fishing will give something to talk about in 2017," he underlined.
SNP President Elena Conterno is confident 2017 will be a good year for the fisheries industry, which will "contribute to employment, GDP and exports."
