Peru's fishery landings volume amounted to 812,800 metric tons in November last year, the second-highest figure in the last 12 months, and a 2.6% increase compared to the same month in 2019, the Production Ministry reported on Saturday.

This result was driven by landings of hydrobiological resources aimed at direct human consumption (14.2%) and —to a lesser extent— the performance of the extractive activity linked to anchovy geared towards indirect human consumption (1.2%).

In this sense, Production Minister Jose Luis Chicoma highlighted November's landings, as it enabled the consolidation of six months of continuous growth and a favorable contribution to the national GDP.

Likewise, the government official explained that the landings aimed at direct human consumption were boosted by the catches of mackerel (508.7%), horse mackerel (109.2%), scallops (81%), and frozen squid (47.8%).

Greater anchovy landings

The minister also underscored the 710,100 metric tons of landings destined for indirect human consumption, noting the anchovy catches that were possible thanks to 2020's second fishing season in the north-central zone of the country, which began on November 12.

The ports with the highest landings included Malabrigo (226,000 MT), Chimbote (103,000 MT), Pisco (64,000 MT), Tambo de Mora (59,000 MT), and Coishco (57,000 MT), which together account for 72% of the total catches.
