The Judiciary has postponed until April 15 at 9:00 a.m. the final decision in the trial against former President Ollanta Humala Tasso and other defendants for the alleged crime of money laundering.
The announcement was made by Judge Nayka Coronado, of the Third National Collegiate Criminal Court, during today's hearing, after listening to the final arguments of former First Lady Nadine Heredia, who is also a defendant.
The judge explained that the complexity of the case has required a detailed review of the evidence.
"The issue is quite complex due to the cross-referencing of financial information. Several confidential figures related to contributions are being verified accordingly, and we will have to postpone the decision by five days from the originally scheduled date," she stated.
The magistrate added that they will hear the final material self-defense statement of Santiago Gastañaudi on April 9 at 8:30 a.m.
"This gives us a few more days to complete the verification of evidence before the final decision, which will be announced on Tuesday, April 15, at 9:00 a.m.," Judge Coronado declared.
Initially, the reading of the sentence was set for April 8, the date by which it was expected that the final arguments of all defendants would be completed. However, the complexity of evidence verification led to the rescheduling.
The Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office) has requested a 20-year prison sentence for Ollanta Humala and 26 years and 3 months for Nadine Heredia. In this context, the final decision of the Judiciary will be announced on Tuesday, April 15.
