Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi on Friday participated virtually in the launch of the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP) initiative, which will contribute to economic recovery, regional integration, and efforts to meet our populations' needs.

Within this framework, the Peruvian Cabinet member welcomed the initiative by the United States Government.

It includes shared interests in trade; the fight against poverty; opportunities for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises; the empowerment of women; and climate change; among others.

The diplomat also underscored the importance of solidarity for defending the democratic values system in Peru and the region so as to guide it towards sustainable, fair, and inclusive economic growth.

About APEP

On Friday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Trade Representative Katherine Tai moved this initiative forward with representatives from the initial Western Hemisphere countries, who will join them and endorse the principles and high-level goals of the initiative.

Those countries are Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay.

This significant group represents about 90% of the Western Hemisphere's GDP and nearly two thirds of its people.

The Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity will foster regional competitiveness, resilience, shared prosperity, as well as inclusive and sustainable investment, while tackling the climate crisis, by seeking high standard agreements in these critical areas: Regional Competitiveness; Resilience; Shared Prosperity; Inclusive and Sustainable Investment, the White House specified.
