Peru expressed its solidarity and condolences to the Government and the people of Australia for the terrorist attack that has claimed the lives of more than a dozen members of the Jewish community.

Via social media, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its strong commitment to freedom of religion and its absolute rejection of terrorism.

Media outlets reported that two men shot and killed 16 people on Sunday at Sydney's Bondi Beach, one of Australia's most popular beaches, during the celebration of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.

Authorities have described the attack as terrorist and antisemitic.

Law enforcement agents are continuing to investigate a mass shooting that resulted in 16 people dying and 40 people being injured in Sydney's east, the New South Wales Police Force reported.
