The Government of Peru has expressed concern about the situation of tension between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it reaffirmed its conviction that the Minsk Agreements and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2002 are the legal basis for reaching a political solution to put an end to said conflict.

In the statement, the Peruvian Government determined the serious tension generated by issues related to the security perceptions of the Russian Federation, NATO, and Ukraine, which must be resolved exclusively through peaceful means of dispute resolution.

Moreover, it involves diplomatic negotiation between the parties involved —in strict and absolute respect for international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

The Government urged that the willingness expressed by all parties at the Security Council session on February 18 to immediately start diplomatic consultations and negotiations, which can be carried out as soon as possible and thus generate confidence to reach a peaceful and diplomatic solution.
