The Government of Peru, through the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs , expressed concern about the growing limitation on the exercise of the right to citizen participation in all political sectors across Venezuela.
As is known, such limitation has led, among other restrictive measures, to the arrest of opposition leaders.
Through
Official Statement No. 007 - 2024, Peru reiterates its call to ensure that the Barbados Agreements, signed last October, is implemented in good faith,
with the aim of guaranteeing the holding of free elections in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
On Thursday, various media outlets reported the arrest of Henry Alviarez, the national coordinator of Vente Venezuela, a party led by opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, for being allegedly linked to violent plans related to the presidential elections on July 28.
Former deputy Dignora Hernandez, a member of Vente Venezuela, was also detained for planning violent actions to force the registration of candidacy of Machado, who was elected in the primaries as the standard bearer of the main opposition coalition but remains disqualified from competing due to a sanction from the Venezuelan Comptroller's Office.
