The Judicial Branch on Friday issued an order to ban former President Martin Vizcarra from leaving Peru for a period of 18 months.

Judge Maria de los Angeles Alvarez convened a judicial hearing —via videoconference— to evaluate the request submitted by the Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group against the former Head of State in the investigation for alleged aggravated collusion and others.

His lawyer Fernando Ugaz said that the defense acquiesced to the prosecutorial request in order to provide serenity and tranquility to the proceedings.

Vizcarra is being investigated for allegedly having received bribes during his tenure as Governor of Moquegua region over the tender of Lomas de Ilo and Moquegua Hospital construction works.
