Peru: Exports up 7.9% in 2Q 2024

09:34 | Lima, Aug. 30.

Total exports amounted to US$17.671 billion in the second quarter of this year, a figure that accounts for 24.6% of GDP and a 7.9% rise compared to sales abroad registered in the same period of 2023, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) has reported.

The increased exports are mainly due to higher prices for metals, such as copper and gold, hydrocarbons, and non-traditional products, specifically from the agricultural and fishing sectors.

The increased dynamism of fishmeal shipments contributed favorably to the quarterly result as well.

The upward trend in export value was limited by the reduction in copper shipments volume due to lower production at some mines and a base effect from sales abroad of inventories accumulated in 2023.

Lower export volumes were also observed in the case of agricultural products —following the adverse weather conditions of the previous year that affected the 2024 harvests— and fishing products —due to lower giant squid shipments.
