Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros on Wednesday participated in the ceremony marking the opening of Expoalimentaria, Latin America's most important food fair.
Expoalimentaria aims at positioning Peruvian products on the international market.
In his speech, the cabinet member projected the event will bring together 45,000 visitors, as well as attract 600 foreign buyers.
"Expoalimentaria has become Latin America's largest exhibition platform. In 2000, agro-export products totaled US$580 million, and they are expected to reach US$6.1 billion by year-end," Ferreyros expressed.
Likewise, he forecast Peru will see those exports exceed US$10 billion by 2021.
While addressing the importance of
Superfood Peru's campaign, the government official noted some 100 Inca firms already have been granted corresponding certifications to export natural products under
said brand.
The government official concluded by underlining
Expoalimentaria is the outcome of joint efforts by the private sector, along with central, regional and local governments.
The event will run thru September 29 at Lima's Jockey Club Center.
