Peruvian Interior Minister Juan Carrasco on Tuesday announced that the Executive Branch will promote a bill to allow the incineration of the cadaver of Shining Path terrorist ringleader Abimael Guzman, who died last Saturday.

"From the Executive Branch, a bill is being promoted, which will be announced by the President of the Republic (Pedro Castillo) in order to allow the incineration of deceased terrorist Abimael Guzman," Carrasco said in remarks to Sol TV.

The Cabinet member pointed out that —thanks to this initiative— a response will be given on the disposal of the corpse of that terrorist, who is no longer subject to law.

"The issue depends on the issuance of a regulation because we do not have legislation in this regard," he indicated.

The high-ranking official said that —as a citizen— he believes a terrorist's corpse should be incinerated because —otherwise— it would become an apology for terrorism in Peru.

"This genocide represents chaos and death for the country, and as the Government, we have a clear stance of total rejection of terrorism," Carrasco emphasized.

"We are going to pursue up to the last terrorist remnants that still remain in the country," he concluded.
