Peru: EsSalud to give some US$8.4 million in bonuses for medical and health care staff

00:00 | Lima, May. 1.

The Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) will allocate S/28.418 million (around US$8.4 million) to fund a bonus for medical and health care workers who fight COVID-19 in its hospitals across Peru.

To do so, the EsSalud senior management has issued Resolution 538-GG-2020, whereby it establishes complementary provisions for the payment of the extraordinary bonus for their service during the COVID-19 crisis.

The reward will benefit healthcare, professional, and technical staff members working in COVID-19 patient care areas, that is to say, intensive care units, emergency wards, home visit teams, as well as those who perform assisted transport services, among others.

The payment of the bonus is carried out by virtue of Urgency Decree 026-2020, issued by President Martin Vizcarra, to reinforce the Surveillance and Health Response System to tackle COVID-19 in the country.

This extraordinary bonus is not of remunerative, compensatory, or pensionable nature and is not subject to social security charges.

Besides, the sum of S/28.418 million (around US$8.4 million) will be financed from the EsSalud institutional budget and be paid on a monthly basis during the term of the health emergency.

It must be noted that EsSalud has recently hired 2,227 health workers to combat COVID-19 —under the Service Administrative Contract (CAS) regime— including 928 doctors, 961 nurses and 338 technologists, as well as nursing technicians and drivers, who will also benefit from this bonus.
