Peru: EsSalud sends medical oxygen to hospitals in Ancash, Ayacucho, Ica, and Huancavelica

14:09 | Lima, Feb. 23.

The Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) reported that it has sent 360 oxygen cylinders to different hospitals in four regions across the country to improve the care of critical patients affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ancash Healthcare Network Director Hermelinda Cosme reported that 50 oxygen cylinders —of 10 cubic meters each— were delivered by EsSalud to optimize COVID-19 areas at Hospital No. II of Huaraz.

"The new batch of oxygen cylinders will be allocated to the most critical areas at the hospital, such as the intensive care unit (ICU), where patients require high-flow oxygen," she explained.

In addition, the regional official noted that this donation is very important for the city of Huaraz, since it contributes to efforts in the fight against this pandemic, in view of the difficult situation that the country is undergoing due to the increase in COVID-19 cases.

On the other hand, Ica Healthcare Network Manager Olinda Velarde received 200 oxygen cylinders, which were sent from EsSalud's Central Management of Operations with the aim of strengthening operations related to the care of COVID-19 patients who need oxygen support.

According to Velarde, "the delivery of these 200 oxygen cylinders constitutes a great contribution to this network, since they will be destined only for Villa Ica Hospital, which is 80% complete and will be handed over next week for the benefit of Ica inhabitants affected by this terrible virus."

For his part, Huancavelica Healthcare Network Director Marvet Cuellar received 50 oxygen cylinders from the Pan American Village in Lima, which will be filled by different institutions.

The Ayacucho Healthcare Network sent 60 oxygen cylinders to Arequipa region for refill, which were returned for the care of COVID-19 patients at a hospital in Huamanga.

Ayacucho Healthcare Network Director Freddy Ramirez remarked that —due to the high demand for medical oxygen and in order to guarantee timely care for patients—agreements have been signed with three medical oxygen production plants at the Regional Government of Ayacucho and with the Municipal Governments of Pichari and Aymaraes.
