Peru: Enfen reaffirms reliability and veracity of El Niño phenomenon-related predictions

The Multisectoral Commission in Charge of the National Study of El Niño Phenomenon (Enfen) reaffirmed the reliability and veracity of predictions related to said natural phenomenon in the country.

In a statement, Enfen reaffirms that the information it provides "is reliable, verifiable, timely and transparent."

In this regard, it called on citizens to consider the experience and knowledge of Enfen's official spokespersons and the institutions that make it up, in order to avoid the spread of misinformation.

It should be noted that the Commission is committed to keeping the population informed in a responsible and accurate manner, providing forecasts and recommendations based on scientific research and the experience gained over the years.

"Enfen will continue to report on the evolution of oceanic-atmospheric conditions and to update the outlook. Its next official statement will be issued on Friday, January 12, 2024," the document reads.

Precisely, the Commission is made up of prestigious technical and scientific institutions, such as the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe), the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi), the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Peruvian Navy (Dihidronav), the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP), the National Water Authority (ANA).

The Commission also comprises the National Institute of Civil Defense and the National Center for Disaster Risk Estimation, Prevention, and Reduction (Cenepred) which, through their national and international observation systems of recognized credibility, carry out monitoring and evaluation of environmental conditions.
