Given its up-to-date features and high security measures, Peru’s electronic passport has been nominated for Best ID Card at the High Security Printing Latin America conference, which gathers organizations involved in the field of high security documents.

Issued by the National Superintendence of Migrations since February 25, the passport has a microchip on which biometric personal data is held.

It also includes holograms that are visible under ultraviolet light and nanoscale texts that can only be seen under a microscope.

Results will be announced at the fifth meeting of HSP Latin America, scheduled to take place 20–22 June 2016 in Mexico City, Mexico.

The High Security Printing Latin America conference is the premier event in the region for organizations involved in the field of high security (government-issued) documents.

HSP conferences are annual events with a specifically regional focus.  They cover government-specified and issued documents, including currency, fiduciary documents, excise stamps, ID cards, e-passports, visas, vehicle documents and licences, with a particular emphasis on banknotes and emerging technologies for ID and travel documents.

Running in tandem with each event is a trade exhibition of 30-40 companies supplying technologies and systems for these sectors.

High Security Printing Asia has been held each year since 2001, and the High Security Printing Europe since 2002.

Latin America, however, is growing in importance, serving not only their growing economies, but the wider region too.

In recognition of this importance, Reconnaissance held the High Security Printing Latin America conference in July 2012 – the first ever event of its kind to address the needs, issues, challenges and opportunities for specifiers and producers of government documents in the region and annually since then.
