Peru was elected a member of the Council of Administration of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for the 2022-2025 term, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Friday.

The election took place at the 27th Congress of that international organization, which is held in Abidjan, with a delegate from the aforementioned Peruvian Government agency.

Thus, Peru will contribute to the development of postal services around the world and the modernization of the Universal Postal Union.

It is the first time that Peru will be part of one of the permanent organs of the UPU.

About UPU

Established in 1874, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) —headquartered in the Swiss capital Berne— is the second oldest international organization worldwide.

With its 192 member countries, the UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players.

It helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services.

This way, the organization fulfills an advisory, mediating and liaison role, and provides technical assistance where needed.

It sets the rules for international mail exchanges and makes recommendations to stimulate growth in mail, parcel, and financial service volumes, as well as to improve quality of service for customers.
