Domestic cement consumption expanded 3.52% in August 2017, higher than the 1.41% growth rate registered last July, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported.

Growth was mainly based on greater amount of private works.

"There is a reactivation of works due to the reconstruction process in areas ravaged by Coastal El Niño phenomenon, along with private works at some mining units […], plus the construction of buildings in the capital and other Peruvian regions," INEI head Anibal Sanchez noted.

"We can already see a rebound in the construction sector, as domestic cement consumption grew last August, more than twice the figures recorded in July 2017," he underlined.

According to INEI, construction sector went up by 3.49% and 3.80% in June and July respectively, thus marking its second month of consecutive growth.

It must be noted said sector had seen red numbers for nine continuous months between September 2016 and May 2017.
