The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) on Monday morning announced the resumption of operations at Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, following electrical malfunction in the runway lights system that occurred last Sunday.

In a statement, the ministry indicated that this problem has been solved after hard work carried out by three groups of workers, made up of technical and specialized personnel.

"The first flight to arrive in Lima was Air Europa's Boeing 787, from Madrid, which landed at 04:47 a.m. (local time)," the MTC indicated.

Likewise, the government agency noted that all airlines were at 01:55 a.m. informed of the authorization to operate Jorge Chavez Airport's second runway, so that they could resume their flight plans.

However, due to the restoration of the electrical system on the main runway, it was not necessary to use the second runway or the new control tower.

Therefore, the flight from Madrid was coordinated with regular control tower operators.

In turn, "two domestic flights took off at 05:37 a.m. heading to Iquitos and Cusco, operated by Sky Airlines," the statement read.

Transportation and Communications Minister Raul Perez Reyes lamented the situation that occurred at Jorge Chavez Airport and said this situation was due to a fortuitous event because of an internal underground wiring problem.
