on Tuesday affirmed that his portfolio provided the Public Ministry/Prosecutor's Office with information linked to the misuse of fuel previously allocated to the Peruvian Army.
The Cabinet member affirmed "we are going to take all the disciplinary actions" that correspond within the institution.
In remarks to Radio Exitosa, Chavez Cresta indicated that the steps taken in this sense have included the dismissal of Military Police Chief Commander Jimmy Grandez, accused of being allegedly responsible for this illegal act.
"We have already informed the Public Ministry, and we are going to take all disciplinary actions," he stated.
Chavez Cresta stated that, according to the complaint initially filed by an institution sergeant, 12 people used to buy that fuel.
The government official indicated that the case —reported by an investigative journalism TV program last weekend— is currently under investigation.
He added that authorities are seeking to determine not only the responsibility of the aforementioned officer but also of those who purchased the fuel, knowing that they were committing an illegal act.
Chavez Cresta indicated that it will also be determined why the military inspectorate in charge of the Army Headquarters' administrative sector had not detected the illicit sales.
The same will be done with respect to the intelligence bodies of this command, which had not detected said illegal practice either, he indicated.
