Peru’s Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi pointed out the Peruvian Army of today is well equipped compared to earlier days.

“I do not exaggerate when I say Peru has the best equipped Army of recent times,” he affirmed.

“And by the best, I refer not only to the equipment renewal initiative implemented by this government but, more importantly, to the professional and human quality of men and women who serve it,” Valakivi said on Wednesday in a ceremony marking the Day of Peruvian Army and the 191st anniversary of Ayacucho Battle.

The Defense Chief said his administration’s goal is to continue improving critical capabilities in defense of the country by upgrading equipments and —above all— education of military staff.

The portfolio, he continued, is also working toward constant improvement of the Army, its procedures and upgrade process.

Valakivi went on to praise the courage of brave Peruvian combatants during the Battle of Ayacucho, which marked the end of the Spanish rule in South America.
