Defense Minister Jorge Chavez supervised the implementation of the Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19 (Tayta Operation) running until September 12 in Madre de Dios to assist the vulnerable population in said region.

The minister was joined by Joint Command of the Armed Forces Chief Army General Cesar Astudillo and Air Force General Commander Rodolfo Garcia, with whom he inspected —along with Madre de Dios Governor Luis Hidalgo— the intervention in the city of Puerto Maldonado.

The staff of the Regional Health Directorate (Diresa), the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), and the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) —with the support of members of the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police— assist the most vulnerable citizens, such as those over 60 years of age, people with disabilities and people with chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, among others) that aggravate their health status in case they become infected.

This intervention consists of early detection through screening and clinical diagnosis, early treatment with medicines approved by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), as well as home isolation of infected people and their family members, to whom the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) gives a basket of non-perishable food so that they can cope with the quarantine period.

The interventions in the capital of Madre de Dios take place in the following places: Puerto Maldonado's Main Square (September 10, 11 and 12), as well as Jose Abelardo Quiñones (September 10 and 11), and La Pastora (September 12) educational institutions.

Tayta Operation is simultaneously performed in Amazonas region, in the provinces of Chimbote and Huarmey (Ancash region), as well as in the districts of Comas, Independencia and Los Olivos (Lima Metropolitan Area).

Since its launch, on June 1, 2020, Tayta Operation has carried out 183 interventions in various regions of the country and benefited around 137,000 vulnerable people.

Moreover, 210 districts across various regions are expected to be intervened by the end of 2020 in order to assist 400,000 people.
