Peru's national soccer team defeated its New Zealand counterpart 1-0 in a friendly match held at RCDE Stadium in Barcelona, Spain, on Sunday.

Thus, the national squad drew important conclusions for the Qatar 2022 World Cup playoff match to take place in Doha on June 13.

In the first half, the Peruvian side began playing its well-known passing game. The red-white team dominated the game.

New Zealanders resorted to rough play against their opponents, who complained to the referee about it on several occasions.

In the second half, Peruvians started the game timidly. The team lost the ball and did not create dangerous situations.

Thus, New Zealanders began to put more pressure on their opponents.

Afterwards, Peru's head coach Ricardo Gareca made some changes.

The Peruvian goal was scored by Gianluca Lapadula, who took advantage of the New Zealand goalkeeper's failure to kick the ball and scored the only goal of the game.

It should be noted that over 32,000 Peruvians attended the home venue of the football club Espanyol to support the national team from the stands.

Playoff

As is known, Peru earned the right to play the intercontinental playoff in search of a place for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and is waiting for its future rival, which will emerge from the winner of the match between the United Arab Emirates and Australia.

Australia and the United Arab Emirates already know the date, time, and place of the match that will determine the Asian Football Confederation representative and team that will face the fifth-place team from CONMEBOL (Peru).

The sides of Australia and UAE will face each other in Doha on June 6 at 9 p.m. (local time).

The winner of this game will face the Peruvian team in a crucial intercontinental playoff, also in Qatar.
