Peru: Cusco and Tarapoto people enjoy preview of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts"

15:45 | Lima, Jun. 4.

Peruvian Commission for Promotion of Export and Tourism (PromPeru) reported that people in the Peruvian cities of Cusco and Tarapoto were blown away by the preview of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," the seventh iteration in the Paramount Pictures franchise.

As is known, part of this live action film was shot in Peruvian territory, which seeks to promote the country as an international film location.

This new movie, which will be in theaters starting Wednesday, June 7, will feature locations in San Martin and Cusco regions.

In San Martin, the film was shot in Alto Shilcayo, La Union waterfalls, Ahuashiyacu waterfalls, and in the district of Shapaja.

On the other hand, among the locations featured in Cusco are the Imperial City's Main Square, the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the archaeological site of Chinchero, and the Malaga Pass.

In each place, PromPeru has helped coordinate the corresponding filming permits with different government institutions, and worked with the production team to ensure an adequate experience.

"Featuring Peru in a mega film production like "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" not only positions it as an attractive destination for film locations, but also as a country with unique and beautiful landscapes, as well as a great millennial history, which makes us feel proud to be Peruvians," PromPeru's Executive President Ricardo Limo pointed out.

As part of the preparations for the preview, the atmosphere in Tarapoto was festive as locals and visitors gathered at the city's Main Square.

In Cusco, the party was complete with the participation of cars of Optimus Prime, Wheeljack, and Bumblebee, as well as a show of typical dances, which surprised and delighted attendees at the event.

The Story

The Paramount production —directed by Steven Caple Jr. which stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback— serves as both a sequel to Bumblebee (2018) and prequel to the Transformers saga.

The story is set in 1994, when Noah Diaz (Ramos), an ex-military electronics expert, and archaeologist Elena Wallace (Fishback) are part of a war between the Autobots and three factions of the Transformers race: the Maximals, the Predacons, and the Terrorcons.

Director Steve Caple Jr. said that he had chosen the site for the "spiritual connection that is felt in sacred places."

At a virtual event held long ago by Paramount, Caple Jr. commented on the chance to film in Cusco —located high and deep in the Andes Mountain range— where you can find traces of a sophisticated Inca civilization that survived in time and is still alive in Cusco communities.

"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" opens in the United States on June 9, 2023.

Film in Peru

'Film in Peru' is a strategy by the Peruvian Commission for Promotion of Export and Tourism (PromPeru) to promote the country as a film destination, raising awareness of the country's identity and image.

Peru offers an amazing geography and a vast culture that make the country a destination with countless locations and diverse settings where all kinds of stories can be told. Peru is history, nature, culture, and adventure.

In addition, the country is a melting pot of ethnicities and living cultures with cultural manifestations of vibrant colors and a rich folklore that fuses music, dances, and traditional celebrations that have transcended time.

Also, its diverse gastronomy stands out. The result of the fusion of climates, cultures, colors, and flavors of the Coastline, the Andes mountains, and the Amazon make the experience of filming in Peru unforgettable.
