Peru: Culture Min urges citizens to get vaccinated with third dose

Culture Minister Gisela Ortiz on Thursday urged Peruvians to get vaccinated with the third dose so as to be better protected against the third wave of COVID-19.

"It is necessary to get vaccinated with the three doses available to avoid fatal consequences due to the infections that increase every day during this third wave," Ortiz wrote on Twitter.

"Taking care of yourself, taking care of your family is our responsibility. Let's get vaccinated," she added after calling on citizens to go to the vaccination sites provided by the Ministry of Health.

The third wave was confirmed on Tuesday by Health Minister Hernando Cevallos, who explained that the Omicron variant has become the predominant one in Metropolitan Lima, accounting for more than 53% of cases.

Starting January 7, curfew in Lima, Callao, and 23 other provinces nationwide —at high alert level due to the increase in infections— will run from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the following day.
