Peru creates permanent space for dialogue between Gov't and indigenous peoples

The Executive Branch has created a Permanent Multisectoral Commission on Nature to propose, monitor, and supervise the implementation of strategic measures and actions for the comprehensive development of indigenous or native peoples.

The aim is to make dialogue and coordination between the State and indigenous peoples official.

Established on Friday by Supreme Decree No. 005-2021-MC, the Multisectoral Commission provides a space for high-level dialogue and is chaired by the Ministry of Culture. 

Additionally, it seeks to secure and promote the participation of indigenous or native peoples by including their representative organizations in the formulation and implementation of measures aimed at their care, protection, and respect for integrity.

The Multisectoral Commission is made up of national representative organizations, such as the Inter-ethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Jungle (AIDESEP), the Farmer Confederation of Peru (CCP), and the Confederation of Amazonian Nationalities of Peru (CONAP).

Other representatives of indigenous or native peoples include the National Federation of Peasant, Artisan, Indigenous, Native and Salaried Female Workers of Peru (FEMUCARINAP), the National Organization of Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Women of Peru (ONAMIAP), and the National Union of Aymara Communities (UNCA).

The Executive Branch is represented by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), and the Ministry of Culture, which chairs the commission.

The list also includes the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion, the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, the Ministry of Education, aas well as the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
