Starting this Friday, booster doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 will be administered to citizens aged 18 or older who had received their second doses more than five months ago, the
Ministry of Health (Minsa) has announced.
On Thursday night,
Health Minister Hernando Cevallos told reporters outside the Government Palace that Minsa relies on the stock of vaccines so as to administer booster doses.
"It will be possible to administer third doses to citizens aged 18 and above, those who had received them (second doses) more than five months ago," he said.
The Peruvian State currently administers third doses to health sector professionals and workers who are on the frontline in the fight against COVID-19, as well as to older adults who had received second doses more than six months ago.
Out of that total, 17,759,529 were given as second dose.
"This figure represents 63% of the target population," the leading government authority in the health sector said in its daily report.
The information above is applicable as of November 25 at 6:09 p.m. (local time) and was published on the COVID-19 Vaccination Situation Room.
