The coronavirus vaccination of people aged 63-64 years will begin today, May 31, at all vaccination centers in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on Monday.

161,000 citizens aged 63 and 64, who reside in Lima and Callao, will be eligible for vaccination at more than 70 vaccination sites across all districts in said metropolitan areas.

Details on the date, place, and time of their vaccination will be available on the government's official "Pongo el Hombro" (I Lend a Shoulder) platform.

"We are increasing the number of vaccination sites and recruiting more nurses and vaccination brigade members to provide a better service," Health Minister Oscar Ugarte affirmed.

He emphasized that the Government has transferred more than S/190 million (about US$49.8 million) to the health sector in order to strengthen and increase the number of vaccination brigades throughout the country.

Election period

Additionally, Minsa has decided to suspend the vaccination against COVID-19 on Sunday, June 6, due to the holding of the presidential runoff election.

Vaccination will not take place on June 4, 5, and 7 at 32 vaccination centers that serve as polling stations. However, the immunization process will proceed normally at the remaining sites.

Nevertheless, to keep pace with the COVID-19 vaccination program, Minsa has decided to schedule appointments on June 3 and 10.
