Peru: COVID-19 vaccination of people aged 60-62 begins today

The COVID-19 vaccination of people aged 60-62 residing in Metropolitan Lima and Callao will begin today, June 8, at more than 60 vaccination centers, which will be put into operation by the Regional Health Directorate of Callao and the four Directorates of Integrated Health Networks (Diris) of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

According to Minsa, details on the place of their vaccination is already available on the government's official "Pongo el Hombro" (I Lend a Shoulder) platform.

It should be noted that the health sector will open two new VacunaCar (vaccination drive-thru) sites in the beach areas along the districts of Chorrillos (Agua Dulce) and Magdalena, in the Costa Verde seashore, where people can get inoculated while staying in their cars.

Some 3,600 people per day are expected to be vaccinated at the above-mentioned VacunaCar sites.

In total, 275,120 people aged 60-62 are expected to be vaccinated until Sunday, June 13.

In addition, the administration of the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to people aged 70-79 will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, whereas those aged 63 and 64 years will be inoculated on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. In total, 388,303 citizens will be immunized this week in Lima and Callao.

Deputy Public Health Minister Gustavo Rosell reported that the vaccination in rural areas will begin in the next two weeks and new comorbidities will be included in the priority groups.

At present, there are 620 vaccination centers nationwide and 3,000 vaccination brigades, which are each composed of three people.
