The COVID-19 vaccination of people aged 50 and above started on Monday, June 21, at 7:00 a.m. (local time).

Some 112,230 people —from the 13 most populated districts in Arequipa Province— are due to receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at this stage.

According to Arequipa's Regional Health Management Office (Geresa) Executive Director Ruperto Dueñas, the immunization of the elderly population will take place until Saturday, June 26.

This measure is part of the agreements adopted by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), which established an epidemiological surveillance in Arequipa to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Arequipa is the worst-affected region by this disease and has reported a high number of new cases in recent weeks.

According to Geresa, 28 vaccination sites have been set up in total. They are located in downtown Arequipa, Jose Luis Bustamante y Rivero, Miraflores, Alto Selva Alegre, Mariano Melgar, and Yanahuara, among other districts.

In addition, the vaccination centers will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the immunization schedule will be according to the last digit of vaccine recipients' ID number.

Private healthcare providers will support the vaccination process at this stage. In addition to deploying their health workers to serve as vaccinators, they will set up their facilities to administer the jabs.
