The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) on Wednesday highlighted the fact that the 188th birthday of Grand Admiral Miguel Grau —Peru's top naval hero— is commemorated on the occasion.

Via its official Twitter account, the PCM saluted the Navy and its members, who —it underlined— follow Grau's legacy with professionalism and love for the country.

Likewise, the Joint Command of the Armed Forces remembered Miguel Grau and the act of offering his life in defense of the nation's interests at the Battle of Angamos.

Miguel Grau Seminario was born on July 27, 1834, in Peru's northern Piura region. He is also known as the Gentleman of the Seas and holds the title of Peruvian of the Millennium.

On October 8, 1879, leading the Huascar ship, he fought against the Chilean fleet at Punta Angamos, where he died and became a hero.
