Peru: Constitutional Court puts to vote Keiko Fujimori's habeas corpus

18:00 | Lima, Sep. 25.

Peru's Constitutional Court on Wednesday put to vote the habeas corpus submitted by former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori's family in order to regain her freedom.

In this sense, the court listened for two hours to the arguments in favor and against the appeal, supported by Fujimori's defense and the Judiciary's attorney, respectively.

Both parts also answered the questions made by the magistrates.

Thus, Constitutional Court Head Ernesto Blume put the request to vote and asked both parts to present the additional written arguments they deem necessary.

Back then, the Judicial Branch had declared well-founded the request made by the Prosecutor's Office to imprison Fujimori because of the danger of obstruction of justice that implied keeping her free.

After having fled to Japan and traveled to Chile —from where he was extradited to Peru— the Fujimori patriarch was sentenced for crimes against human rights and corruption committed during his term in office.
