Congress Chairwoman Maria del Carmen Alva on Wednesday announced that Parliament on March 8 will receive the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Anibal Torres to present the Government's general policy and request a vote of confidence from lawmakers.

"We believe in dialogue and consensus, in building the country as a whole; therefore, we want to announce that we will receive them (Cabinet members) on March 8," Alva expressed during a press conference joined by other parliamentarians at Congress headquarters.

The Parliament head affirmed that there is time to reflect, reach consensus, convene, reconcile, propose, talk, and see what can be done together for the benefit of the country.

The high-ranking official said that during 200 years of independence Congress always sought consensus and dialogue, assuring that this time will not be the exception.

Likewise, the Cabinet chief defended the meeting she had with other parliamentarians at a hotel in Lima's Miraflores district where, according to Hildebrandt en sus Trece journalistic magazine, a presidential vacancy was discussed.

"Congress meets in search of a single objective: a better Peru. We, Congress members, meet and will continue to meet constantly," she indicated.

In her opinion, these meetings will be held with the aim of finding "consensus proposals to move forward, respecting the law and the Constitution."

In this sense, Chairwoman Alva dismissed criticism by Prime Minister Torres, who warned that the agenda of the aforementioned meeting was to remove President Pedro Castillo from office.
