Parliament Chairman Jose Williams Zapata on Thursday met with Economy-Finance Minister Alex Contreras so as to maintain fluid communication to boost economic growth and generate more employment in the country.

"I welcome the visit by Economy Minister Alex Contreras, who has conveyed to me his political will to work with Congress to move the legislative proposals from his sector forward, which benefit the most vulnerable Peruvians," the Parliament head expressed via his Twitter account.

The gathering took place at Congress' Chairmanship office and lasted approximately one hour.

Once the event was over, Minister Contreras highlighted the full willingness of Parliament's head so that a series of initiatives, expected to generate around 250,000 jobs, can be debated at the next plenary session.

The Cabinet member said these are measures related to the electricity subsidy, the payment to the fuel price stabilization fund, the subsidy for job creation, and the school maintenance expense —all that thinking of the regions affected, in terms of transportation, tourism, commerce, and agriculture which, in addition to social conflict, are affected by drought.

"They are short- and long-term plans to swiftly reactivate the economy in our country. I appreciate the willingness of the Congress chairman to dialogue. It is important to do so thinking about the country which is tired of confrontations," the MEF head pointed out.
