The Congress of the Republic approved the censure of Interior Minister Vicente Romero during a plenary session on Wednesday evening.

The initiative received 75 votes in favor, 28 against, and 14 abstentions for the departure of Romero from the Ministerial Cabinet.

Parliament accumulated the two censure motions (No. 8911 and No. 8927) presented against the Interior sector’s head on the grounds of "technical and leadership incapacity, as well as lack of suitability for the exercise of the position, in accordance with article 132 of the Political Constitution and article 86 of the Regulations of the Congress of the Republic."

The approval of a censure motion requires the vote of more than half of the legal number of legislators.

Parliament Chairman Alejandro Soto announced that the agreement reached by lawmakers will be communicated to the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte.

It must be noted that Vicente Romero shall resign from the post.
