Peru: Congress admits second impeachment motion against President Vizcarra

Congress on Monday afternoon approved to debate the second impeachment motion against the President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra, which was submitted by Union Por el Peru (UPP) party and other legislators.

The aforementioned motion received 60 votes in favor, 40 against, and 18 abstentions.

According to the regulations of Congress, at least 40% of votes in favor were needed to admit the motion.

The next session will take place on November 9. The impeachment requires at least 87 votes to be approved.


The new vacancy motion against the President of the Republic was submitted following the statements made by aspiring effective collaborators to the Prosecutor's Office, about alleged facts from the time he had served as Moquegua region governor (2011-2014).
