12:59 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Aug. 2.
Located in Peru's southern Arequipa region, Colca Valley received 32,219 (domestic and foreign) tourists in July this year.
Caylloma Province Mayor Romulo Tinta said such figure is the highest in five years.
It must be noted the tourist inflow has not been affected by current problems on the road linking Arequipa and Lima regions.
Likewise, the official underlined 9,021 travelers arrived in the Andean valley during the long weekend (July 27-30) on the occasion of national holidays.
"With 9,021 visitors in only four days, the figure is high compared to July last year [...]," Tinta stated.
It is worth pointing out that 18,377 out of the total (32,219) visitors last month were foreigners.
Although foreign tourists represented the highest number of arrivals, the valley also welcomed a great deal of domestic sightseers.
Colca Valley
Colca Valley is one of the region's top attractions. The area offers numerous tourist services, and besides its natural beauty, visitors come to enjoy the majestic "flight of the condor" —an emblematic Andean bird.
The place is located four hours away from the city of Arequipa, and there is a paved road leading to such natural site.
