Colca Canyon —located in Caylloma Province in the region of Arequipa— has been selected in the 2020 Sustainable Destinations Top 100, recently revealed at the Global Green Destinations Days (GGDD).

Its inclusion on the list, places Colca Canyon among the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in the world, which will generate a greater tourist flow in this area.

According to Colca Autonomous Authority (Autocolca) Manager Winder Anconeira, this will promote sustainable tourism in Colca Canyon.

For the sixth time, the Sustainable Top 100 Destinations list has been unveiled at the first-ever online Global Green Destinations Days (GGDD).

GGDD is a yearly conference for connecting sustainability professionals, destinations, and tourism boards in order to support peer to peer learning and finding sustainable solutions for tourism destinations.

The Sustainable Top 100 Destinations of 2020 have engaged to become more future-proof and submitted their Good Practice Stories on how to do that.

The Sustainable Top 100 Destinations competition is organized to showcase sustainable tourism stories and good practices of destinations, as inspiring examples to others, to tour operators, and to travelers.

By publishing this annual list and by sharing their destination management good practices and success stories, the initiators acknowledge the steps taken towards making tourism destinations more sustainable, responsible, and more attractive from a visitor experience point of view.

The Top 100 committee stresses that selection for the Top 100 list does not mean the destination is sustainable. It means it is making good efforts and promising progress.
