12:56 | Lima, Mar. 09 (ANDINA).
A municipal official in northern Peru's Chiclayo city announced Friday that a craft shop will open this May with the aim of starting exports of handmade clothing and accessories made with native cotton.
Tourism promoter Norma Muro explained that local artisans will design clothing using this ancient fiber in order to promote the sale of their products abroad.
"We have potential buyers from Spain, Mexico, Chile and Ecuador," Muro told Andina.
This initiative will be possible thanks to the support of the private sector which will provide some 60 artisans with tools and equipment, she added.
Moreover, Muro said that the big challenge is to strengthen the competitiveness of micro and small sized entrepreneurs, by aligning their business activities with requirements of international quality standards.
