Peru: Censure motion against Congress' Board rejected

17:00 | Lima, Oct. 16.

During a plenary session on Thursday, Congress rejected the motion of censure against its Board, headed by Jose Jeri —now President of the Republic— thus dismissing it.

This refers to Motion of the Day No. 19895, submitted by various parliamentary groups.

It received 20 votes in favor, 63 against, and 4 abstentions.

The document was previously submitted to the plenary by Congressman Pasion Davila, on behalf of its authors. It was put to debate afterwards.

The plenary session was presided over by legislator Jose Cueto (Honor and Democracy group), since Congress' Chairman Fernando Rospigliosi (Popular Force) is also a member of the Board that was the subject of the motion.

After the vote, Rospigliosi resumed chairing the Board and ordered the session to be adjourned.

Earlier, the plenary heard a presentation by Interior Minister Vicente Tiburcio regarding the protests held on Wednesday and the death of a demonstrator.

Additionally, President Jose Jeri arrived at Congress today. He held a meeting with Chairman Rospigliosi.

On this occasion, the Head of State was accompanied by Prime Minister Ernesto Alvarez Miranda and other Cabinet members.
