Peru celebrates the Day of "Pollo a la Brasa" —Peruvian rotisserie-styled chicken— this Sunday to honor one of the country's most popular dishes.

The event also aims to boost consumption of chickens at national and international levels.

Thus, various pollerias —restaurants specializing in the dish— announced a series of promotions on the occasion.

According to the Peruvian Poultry Association (APA), people are expected to buy more than one million chickens this Sunday.

Likewise, APA President Apolonio Suarez affirmed that over 50% of diners choose pollerias over sea-, fast-food or chifa (Peruvian Cantonese food) restaurants.

In general, the dish is served with fries and lettuce-tomato salad.

It should be noted Peru commemorates Pollo a la Brasa Day every third Sunday of July.
