Peru Libre party presidential candidate Pedro Castillo on Wednesday requested his followers gathered at Downtown Lima's Plaza de la Democracia (Democracy Plaza), in front of the National Election Board (JNE) headquarters, for tolerance and to avoid falling into provocations.

Within this framework, the candidate said that "we must be tolerant; let's not fall into provocations."

"Each one of us has become a brick in this democratic building," he expressed.

The candidate pointed out that, while walking near this place, he thought it might be necessary to come to thank them.

After his speech, the presidential candidate left the area and got into a vehicle to go to the party premises on Paseo Colon, where he will meet with Arequipa region mayors and elected Peru Libre lawmakers.

Electoral process

As is known, 25,287,954 Peruvians —in the country and abroad— were called to elect a new President of the Republic between candidates Keiko Fujimori and Pedro Castillo in the runoff election on June 6. Whoever wins the election will become President Francisco Sagasti's successor and take office on July 28, 2021.

With 100% of voting records counted by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Pedro Castillo (Peru Libre) obtained 50.126% of votes, followed by Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular) with 49.874%.

The presidential runoff election winner is yet to be proclaimed by the National Election Board (JNE).
