Peru: Casa Solidaria to house 600 COVID-19 patients in Piura

18:16 | Piura (Piura region), Apr. 27.

After a religious ceremony, Piura Region Governor Servando Garcia inaugurated Casa Solidaria (Solidarity House) —a shelter with the capacity to house up to 600 COVID-19 patients in northern Peru.

The facility includes bedrooms, bathrooms, changing rooms, and a dining room for the use of patients, health care personnel, as well as administrative staff.

It has the capacity to house and quarantine 600 COVID-19 patients, as well as those with mild or asymptomatic infection.

The Regional Government of Piura will cover the cost of food for 14 days, the time required for the mandatory quarantine.

"We are going to have doctors, nurses, and medical technicians. If patients require immediate assistance, they will be taken to Santa Rosa Hospital," the governor expressed.

According to Garcia, Piura is the region that has facilitated the return of the largest number of people to their place of origin.

"We have asked local authorities to receive them in their jurisdictions. We told them to prepare rooms and shelters so as to bring as many Piura natives as possible. We have asked the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) to return 800 people," he noted.
