Peru candidate for OAS Secretary-General meets with Trinidad and Tobago Minister

Peru's candidate to become the Organization of American States (OAS) new Secretary-General, Ambassador Hugo de Zela, on Friday met with Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses.

According to Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the high-ranking authorities agreed on the need to improve the regional political body's capacities and effectiveness.

The Peruvian candidacy aims at contributing to the strengthening of the continental organization as a space for dialogue, as well as to generating consensus.

Another objective is to find effective solutions to the principal conflicts in the Western Hemisphere.

Previously, he met with Jamaica's Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Ministry Permanent Secretary Marcia Gilbert-Roberts and other high-ranking officials, as part of his Caribbean tour.

The OAS Secretary-General election will be held on March 20, 2020.
