The 9th edition of Cacao and Chocolate Salon will generate nearly US$110 million in sales, a 10% expansion from its previous edition in 2017, Peruvian Association of Cacao Producers (Appcacao) projected Thursday.
"We want to continue positioning this emblematic product at the national and
international levels (...)," Appcacao Manager Luis Mendoza told Andina news agency.
"This fair also enables us to position ourselves in the local market and further boost domestic consumption," he added.
The Appcacao representative highlighted that buyers from the
United States, Canada, as well as from
Europe and Asia are expected to attend this year's edition.
"We will be able to showcase products from 16 Peruvian cacao-producing regions. San Martin, Junin, Ayacucho, and Ucayali account for 70% of (the total) national
cacao output," he pointed out.
The event
The 9th Cacao and Chocolate Salon is regarded as one of the most important specialized fairs in the region that brings together national and international economic agents from the
cacao supply chain.
The event is expected to welcome over 20,000 visitors. It features 150 stands at which several producer organizations,
exporters, and specialized companies offer their best products.
Likewise, it will include activities such as the 4th National Peruvian Chocolate Contest, as well as master classes, business rounds, chocolate demonstrations, fashion shows, and guided tours to cacao crops, among others.
This initiative's main aim is to value national cacao as a native product from the Peruvian Amazon, along with its wide genetic diversity and properties.
The
9th Cacao and Chocolate Show opened its doors to the public on Thursday at 27 de Enero Convention Center in Lima's San Borja district and will run thru July 22.
