Peru: Blueberry exports up 24% by October 2018

Peruvian blueberry exports amounted to US$306.8 million by October 2018, thus increasing 24% compared to the same period last year, privately-run Perucamaras' Business Research Center (CIE) has informed.

This outcome was underpinned by greater exported volumes (40,580 tons) between January and October of this year, a 51% rise over the similar term in 2017. 

La Libertad is the top-exporting region of this fruit, recording 76.4% of total shipments. It was followed by Lima (8.3%), Lambayeque (7.2%), Ancash (3.3%), Ica (2.5%), and Piura (2.4%). 

Likewise, La Libertad region's exports reached US$158.3 million by September 2018, thus expanding 53.3% compared to the same period last year. 

Concerning sales volume, shipments reached 23,098 tons (+104.1%). 

The top destinations were the United States (US$156 million, +43.1%), the Netherlands (US$67.4 million), the United Kingdom (US$27.8 million), and China (US$22.3 million).
