Peru will become a digital development hub for the region. This came after the announcement by the technological transnational brand Amazon Web Services (AWS) choosing our country as a new local zone for its public cloud infrastructure —as part of its expansion strategy in Latin America.
As a local zone (AWS Local Zones), the company will place computing, storage, database, and other cloud services near large centers of population, industry, and information technology.
This contributes to implementing apps such as real-time remote gaming; entertainment and media creation; live video streaming; engineering simulations; virtual and augmented reality; machine learning inference at the edge; and more.
According to the official, this level of investment in infrastructure and digital platforms —to be located in the city of Lima— will open up great opportunities for the country's digital ecosystem, as well as for economic reactivation, employability, digital entrepreneurship, and the national digital transformation process.
"Thus, Amazon joins another global transnational (corporation) that has also opted to invest in local cloud infrastructure in Peru, such as Huawei," Chocobar expressed.
"That will speed up the closing of digital gaps and the use of industry 4.0 technologies at the national level, in line with the 8th Axis of the Government's General Policy. This, in turn, will generate the challenge of strengthening digital talent in every region of the country," she added.
Technological development opportunities
With the new cloud infrastructure in Lima, customers will be allowed to implement apps that require a latency of less than 10 milliseconds, being closer to end users or on-premise data centers.
"We know that ultra-low latency application delivery for a seamless user experience is important in every business and industry, so we're excited to bring the cloud to more customers in Peru so as to help meet their needs," said Marcos Grilanda, AWS Regional Manager for the Private Sector in Latin America.
AWS Local Zones provide a secure, high-bandwidth connection between on-premises workloads and those running in the AWS region, enabling continuous connection to other workloads running on AWS and to the entire portfolio of services in the region through the same APIs and toolsets.
Recently, the launch of 32 new zones of this type was announced, which will be enabled internationally from 2022.
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru are the countries to rely on AWS Local Zones. This way, Latin America will have a total of 6 AWS Local Zones.
