Peru beats Chile 2-0 in 2022 World Cup qualifier

Peru's national soccer team defeated its Chilean counterpart 2-0 in a 2022 World Cup qualifier on Thursday evening at the National Stadium in Lima.

The match kicked off at 8 p.m. (local time) in the presence of around 8,000 spectators, due to health safety measures associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was a tough first half; it took Gareca's players some minutes to break the 0-0 tie.

The Peruvian side opened the scoring with a goal from Christian Cueva, who unleashed a right-footed shot from the center of the box in the first half (34').

The second goal of the match was a Sergio Peña's shot in the 63th minute, which sealed the victory for the host team.

With tonight's win, Peru has gained three points and has racked up 11, three points behind the fifth place.

It must be pointed out that the Incas' next match will be against Bolivia on October 10.
