Peru's Central Reserve Bank (BCR) Governor Julio Velarde has been chosen as Chair of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four on International Monetary Affairs and Development (G-24) for next year.
The decision was made during the
Group's 100th meeting, within the framework of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group (WBG) held in Bali, Indonesia.
The
G-24 was established in 1971 by the Group of 77 (G-77). Its objective is to help developed and emerging countries agree on topics related to monetary, financial, and development policies.
In a statement, G-24 explained the uncertainty surrounding trade and the monetary policy trend are disturbing financing conditions, which has become a vulnerability for the Group's economies and debt.
The
Group is composed of Argentina, Algeria, Brazil, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Gabon, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Iran, Lebanon, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Syria, Congo, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as Venezuela.
Ecuador, Haiti, Kenya, and Morocco joined in 2017.
