South-Andean Ayacucho City is working rapidly to get things ready for its traditional Carnival celebration taking place this February.
The event is one of the most popular traditions in the region, where people enjoy its songs, dances, and food.
Above all, this Carnival is well-known due to its music, involving a ritual which pays tribute to Pachamama, or Mother Earth.
On the occasion, 120 troupes —from various Ayacucho provinces— will participate in the parade performing traditional dances at the city's main square.
In addition, food festivals will be held on the occasion.
It must be noted the event also comprises various activities, such as the traditional Mask-making Contest, Ayacucho Carnival's Composers Competition, as well as the Carnival and Sumaq Warmi Lady Pageants.
The festival will take place on February 10-14.
