The Attorney General's Office has decided that there are no merits for bringing a constitutional charge against President Dina Boluarte over the alleged crime of genocide for the deaths that occurred in social protests. Thus, it has ordered the case in that regard to be shelved.

The document was signed by Attorney General Juan Carlos Villena.

This was announced by Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen, who then stated that "justice is gradually making its way."

"There is no merit to accuse the President of the Republic constitutionally, and the alleged crime of genocide is definitively shelved. As we said, this accusation was always nonsense," Adrianzen expressed on the X platform Tuesday morning.

The dismissal of the genocide complaint is also ordered in favor of former Prime Ministers Pedro Angulo and Alberto Otarola; former Interior Ministers Cesar Cervantes, Victor Rojas, and Vicente Romero; and former Defense Minister Jorge Chavez Cresta.

The decision was issued within the framework of the investigation into the deaths that occurred during the social protests which took place in different Peruvian regions in December 2022 and January 2023.

The Attorney General's Office is independent from the Executive Branch.
